Meze to publish MasterChef champion's cookbook
February 18, 2016 by Natasha Onwuemezi - The Bookseller
Meze Publishing has acquired the debut cookbook from 2015 MasterChef champion Simon Wood entitled At Home with Simon Wood: Fine Dining Made Simple.
Throughout the book, Wood presents a collection of “elegant and delicious” dishes such as his signature wild mushroom ravioli with sage butter and panna gratta, and crispy lamb salad with baba ganoush and flatbread. It includes “invaluable tips on how to maximise flavours and textures", as well as how to “plate to perfection”.
Wood said: “I hope that this book will pass on some of my passion for the art of plating, and the intensity of flavour you can achieve with just a few simple ingredients. My aim is to help you lose some of your culinary inhibitions, so that eventually you’ll never be scared to try anything.”
Before applying for MasterChef, Wood was a data manager. Now Wood is executive chef at The Oldham Event Centre.
Meze Publishing has world rights to the title and will publish At Home with Simon Wood on 11th April, priced at £20
Jamie Oliver to release two cookbooks in 2016
February 18, 2016 by Katherine Cowdrey - The Bookseller
The first, called Family Super Food, will be on the subject of "healthy eating for the family", and the second, Jamie’s Christmas, will be "a long awaited Christmas book".
The news breaks a pattern where Oliver traditionally only publishes one title per year in the autumn season. The release date for each new book publishing in 2016 has yet to be disclosed.
Louise Moore, managing director of Michael Joseph, said: “It is every publisher’s dream to have an author like Jamie and to have two books in one year is truly a gift for us and his fans. I can’t wait to eat from the Family Super Food book, and Christmas is such a stressful time for the cook in the family, so who better to hold your hand through the most important meal of the year.”

Cooks and their books
By Greg Fleming - New Zealand Herald - Wednesday Feb 17, 2016
When I met Yael Shochat, owner of Ima (wonderful and affordable Middle Eastern food in Fort St -- try the shakshuka), she couldn't stop talking about the food of her beloved Tel Aviv -- a city she says is serving some of the best food in the world (chef Eyal Shani is one of her food heroes). So good she even finds herself looking up menus online and reliving meals vicariously.
Renee Coulter cited the Australian Women's Weekly Children's Birthday Cake Cook Book as one of her early inspirations. She was eight.
"I'd flick through its pages allocating the different cakes to various neighbourhood kids and cousins. If a mum or aunt pulled off a great rendition of a 'choo choo train' or the 'jelly swimming pool', they were stars."
She credits that book and pretending to be Alison Holst with her younger assistant as the beginning of what would become K Rd's answer to a Cuban cantina -- Coco's Cantina.
