Two new cookbooks from the UK - authors made famous by their TV shows

Recently released and just added to my cookbook shelf are The Hairy Dieters East for Life and Save with Jamie

The Hairy Dieters Eat for Life
Si King & Dave Myers
Weidenfeld & Nicolson -= $36.99

Bestselling, big-hearted and down-to-earth chefs, The Hairy Bikers, are to return with more  recipes for food lovers to lose weight for life. Following on from their No. 1 best-selling diet book, THE HAIRY DIETERS (published  in August 2012) , The Hairy Bikers share more of their unique blend of delicious low-calorie recipes and easy-to-follow advice in their new book, just published in trade paperback .

Si King and Dave Myers, aka the Hairy Bikers, have been entertaining and feeding Tv viewers with their unique blend of tasty recipes, cheeky humour and motorbike enthusiasm for years now. THE HAIRY DIETERS has sold over 1.2 million copies in the UK and this, their second "diet" book, delivers even more low-cal family favourites and Si and Dave's honest tips on how they've lost the weight (6 stone between them) and kept it off. Packed with 80 delicious recipes, tips, and techniques to learn, this collection of "diet" recipes is The Hairy Bikers at their best.
I put the word "diet" in inverted commas because this is not really a "diet" book as such. It is simply a great selection of low fat recipes. I am making their Rich Beef in Red Wine tonight.

Other recipe books by The Hairy Bikers include: MUMS KNOW BEST (2010), THE HAIRY BIKERS' 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS (2010), MUMS STILL KNOW BEST (2011), THE HAIRY BIKERS' PERFECT PIES (2011), THE HAIRY BIKERS' BIG BOOK OF BAKING (2012), THE HAIRY DIETERS: How to Love Food and Lose Weight (2012) and THE HAIRY BIKERS' GREAT CURRIES (February 2013)

Their publishers claim The Hairy Bikers are the 2nd highest selling cookery brand in the UK, with 6% of the market .Presumably Jamie Oliver is the biggest brand?

Save with Jamie - shop smart, cook clever, waste less
Jamie Oliver
Penguin Books - Hardback$65.00

This is what Jamie has to say himself about his new book:

This year, I've got the message loud and clear that as everyone comes under bigger and bigger financial pressure, they want help to cook tasty, nutritious food on a budget, so this book was born completely out of public demand.

Save with Jamie draws on knowledge and cooking skills to help you make better choices, showing you how to buy economically and efficiently, get the most out of your ingredients, save time and prevent food waste. And there's no compromise - I'm talking big flavours, comfort food that makes you happy, and colourful, optimistic dishes.

Our biggest luxury is knowledge, whether times are hard or not, so get kitchen smart and smash the recession.

Footnote:
Although I love this book, (made his Scilian squash & chickpea stew a couple of nights ago and it was outstanding), I see it is the 13th Jamie Oliver title on my shelf,  I do think the NZ rrp is rather on the high side. The UK price is pds.26.00, (and is widely discounted in UK), so one might have expected it to be around NZ$55.00 or perhaps even $59.95, especially in view of the fact that the purpose of the book is to provide nutritious food on a budget.
If Penguin Books NZ set prices too high then it will just lead to further losses of sales at NZ bookstores as customers will seek to buy online at more realistic prices. In my view this is a great pity and something Penguin should be more mindful of.
