I found this most interesting book (couldn't resist that cover) at the Village Bookshop Matakana last Saturday and have had such fun reading it and deciding which recipes I am going to try first - Harriet's Chicken Rice looks like the front runner as the author says it is "one of my absolute favourite things" and also it looks very straightforward for an amateur cook like me !
The book comprises a great collection of family recipes from the Caribbean, alongside which Jonathan Phang recounts a childhood defined by tales from the homeland, loud music, booming laughter and his mother's spicy aromatic cooking.
The author grew up in a hectic Chinese-Caribbean household in London where delicious food and the wonderful rich smells of the next meal were features. Illustrated with great food shots and photographs from the author's family albums. An excellent addition to my burgeoning cookbook collection.
