Delicious everyday occasions

Bake Me Home by Alice Arndell

A work shout, play centre morning tea, children’s birthday party, or a last minute get-together with friends - the pressure is on but help is at hand!  Alice in Bakingland creator Alice Arndell’s beautiful and extremely useful new cookbook is here!

Bake Me Home: delicious every day occasions is packed with creative ideas and recipes to suit every home baker and every event where food is shared.  This lusciously illustrated book is separated into sections offering up recipes for home-cooked treats to share.  In ‘Filling the Tin’, Alice gives the old-fashioned Coffee Cake and Anzac Biscuit makeovers.  Afternoon teas will never be the same again with her Passionfruit and White Chocolate Lamingtons, while the bag of potato chips will be relegated to the rubbish bin after trying Alice’s Salted Almonds or her Mustard, Herb and Gruyere Cheese Puffs in the ‘Wine & Cheese with the Girls’ chapter.  The ‘hints and tips’ section is invaluable, as are the ‘baking essentials’ and ‘substitutions’ lists.

With the publication of this glorious cookbook those days of trawling through piles of cookbooks or the web for the right recipe and last minute hikes to the dairy for a missing ingredient will be confined to the past.  Every occasion is covered by an array of elegant and tasty food, ingredients which are found is most home pantries, and recipes which can be whistled up with little effort.

‘I wanted to create a book that gave readers a “one-stop shop” for these everyday occasions. These are the “events” we all have in our lives all the time – these are the things we bake and cook for all the time. The show-stopping three-tier cake surrounded by dozens of perfectly decorated cupcakes is all very well – but it’s not the bread and butter of the everyday cook. And that’s why I created Bake Me Home.’

Alice Arndell is a self-taught home baking expert.  Her earliest memories of baking are of her grandmother pulling fresh ginger gems hot from the oven.  She was a finalist on the Chelsea New Zealand Hottest Home Baker.  Alice’s first book, Alice in Bakingland, was published to great acclaim in 2013 and won the Best First Cookbook in the New Zealand section of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.  Alice lives in the Wairarapa with her naval officer husband and her five year old daughter who loves nothing better than licking the baking bowls clean
