New Zealand’s own
Annabel Langbein has won the People’s Choice Award for Best Home Chef in a
Series at the prestigious US Taste Awards.
The celebrity cook
received the award at a glittering red-carpet ceremony in San Francisco last
night (5pm Friday NZ Time).
The award comes
only five months after Annabel’s TV series The
Free Range Cook: Simple Pleasures launched on US TV, showcasing New
Zealand’s spectacular scenery and laid back lifestyle and Annabel’s simple but
delicious garden-to-table recipes to millions of Americans.
“I’m just so amazed and overwhelmed and excited
to have won the People’s Choice Award,” says Annabel. “Thanks to everyone who
voted and who has supported me on this exciting journey. It’s such an honour to
be able to show the rest of the world how special our country is and to share
my philosophy for cooking and eating in tune with the seasons.”
The TASTE Awards (aka the Tastys) are the premiere awards in the US
broadcast industry, celebrating the best in food, fashion, travel and lifestyle
programmes on television, in film, online and on radio. Previous winners
include Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Martha Stewart and Anthony Bourdain.
Annabel was a finalist in four categories in this year’s awards.
The win tops off a great week for Annabel in the US. Last Thursday she
appeared on the top-rating Today
show, demonstrating her quick and clever Super Bowl snacks alongside anchor Matt
Lauer and co-hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. Here’s how TVNZ’s Jack
Tame covered the story: http://bit.ly/1X7avxT Annabel has been invited back to make regular
appearances on the show.
