What is Food Revolution Day all about?
Food Revolution Day is an annual global
day of action that celebrates good, fresh, real food. It’s a day to shout about
the benefits of cooking from scratch and, ultimately, to show people that not
only is fresh food tastier, changing their food choices can also make them
healthier and happier. This year Food Revolution Day is, above all, about
getting children excited about food. It’s our duty to ensure that the next
generation grow up armed with the knowledge and skills they need to make good
lifestyle choices. At the end of the day, they’ll become the next politicians,
policy-makers, doctors, teachers and parents. It’s our responsibility to ensure
they grow up food smart.
How did it start?
Food Revolution Day is a campaign by the Jamie Oliver
Food Foundation in the UK and USA, and The Good Foundation in Australia. To
date, 74 countries have taken part and over 900 ambassadors are championing the
cause worldwide.
Who can take part?
Food Revolution Day is open to anybody, whether you’re
a school, organisation or individual.
Jamie Oliver’s aim is to get 1 million kids worldwide
cooking from scratch! Why?
Food Revolution Day is about raising awareness of how
food impacts our health and happiness – we believe that everyone should know
about food and it starts with getting kids food smart, making cooking fun and
inspiring a love of food that will last a lifetime.
Food Revolution Day takes us one step closer to taking
control of what we eat, combatting obesity and diet-related illnesses, by
teaching kids to:
·
Understand where
food comes from
·
How to cook their
food
·
Help them learn how
it affects their bodies
·
How food affects
their life
