Gregory Llewelyn + Naomi Hart
SOUTHERN-STYLE, DOWN-HOME COOKING DONE TO PERFECTION.
IF YOU’RE GOING TO FRY CHICKEN, JUST MAKE SURE IT’S HARTSYARD-STYLE.
An American chef meets an Australian performer and together, Fried Chicken & Friends is born! It’s a food phenomenon created by Gregory Llewellyn and Naomi Hart, the owners of the restaurant, Hartsyard. Gregory – who names Alain Ducasse, Andrew Carmellini and Daniel Boulud as mentors – met Naomi in New York City while she was pursuing a career in musical theatre. They packed up and arrived in Australia to create an ‘inner city homestead made for comfort and conversation’.
Hartsyard is not only their dream restaurant, it’s one of Australia’s hottest food venues today.Their first book, Fried Chicken and Friends: The Hartsyard Family Cookbook is the ultimate collection of one hundred American-inspired recipes, including BBQ pit beans, oyster po’ boys, mac n’ cheese, sweet potato pie, crab louie (the tastiest cobb salad around), aperol sours and ice-cream stuffed doughnuts to name just a few. And of course the ultimate
Golden Brown Delicious fried chicken.
As Gregory and Naomi say; ‘Fried chicken is not just a dish for special events. Fried chicken makes a special event — that’s the point. It’s humble and egalitarian: everyone is equal when you’re eating with your fingers. No pomp and circumstance.’
So pull up a chair with the Hartsyard team and get stuck into these high-octane flavours.
It’s a party on a plate and everyone’s invited.
